These homeowners had lived in their home for many years and wanted a highly specialized kitchen with an extreme emphasis on accessibility. One of them is confined to a wheelchair and the other an amateur woodworker. They had very specific ideas about both the material selection and functionality.
Custom Cherry cabinetry was built on higher than normal toe kicks and an integrated “bump” rail incorporated to protect the lower cabinets from wheelchair related damage. The sink is a roll-under variety and all the appliances designed to be accessed from a seated position. The entrance to the kitchen was expanded significantly from the adjacent living room and all the flooring replaced with large format marble to enable better wheelchair mobility.
