Optimizing a Spacious Master Bathroom: Part Two

master closet and tub area with white barn doors The story of the luxury spa bathroom continues! If you haven’t yet, check out part one here where we discuss the tub area and vanity remodel. Our couple also needed help organizing their closet space. We made some simple updates by adding hardwood floors and new lighting in the ceiling. While the overall layout and function of the closet worked for this client, they didn’t like that they couldn’t close off the space, bringing the clutter of the closet into the bathroom. To combat this the Wineteer team added new barn doors, a simple way to section off the closet from the rest of the suite. These simple white barn doors with matte black fixtures bring a coziness and warm feel to the environment. While the doors are certainly a functional element of the room, they also bring in an organic and earthy vibe, making the bathroom truly an oasis.   white elegant barn doors opening into master closet

For the couple’s new shower, we repurposed the area which previously held the toilet closet to install a black penny tile frames in matter black edges in shower new barrier-free shower. While the couple previously had an extremely small shower area, by taking over some of the spacious bathroom we were able to create a luxury shower experience in their bathroom remodel. The toilet then moved to the space where the previous shower lived. We also installed a pocket door to close off the shower and toilet area from the rest of the bathroom and suite to create privacy.

barrier free shower in white subway tile with frameless glass door The new shower is gigantic and a much better use of the suite real estate. We used 4 x 16 subway tile in white for a simple design throughout, but we added matte black edge profiles to add a striking design element. This complements the matte black fixtures in the shower, vanity, and tub area. The shower door is a frameless shower door, standard for our barrier free showers. The floor and shower caddy both feature a black penny tile for a contrasting design element. Overall, this bathroom remodel transformed from spacious but awkward to a complete luxury spa experience!

Optimizing a Spacious Master Bathroom: Part One

Traditionally our bathroom remodeling clients come to us with a problem that some people try to solve with Space Bags (or another vacuum sealing bag) – too much stuff, not enough space! With this client’s master master bathroom vanity area with barn doors bathroom suite we had the unique problem of tons of space that was not being used well. They had a plethora of square footage but had no clue how to optimize the space to create a spa-like oasis. That’s where Wineteer Construction comes in. We’ll take you through this project by sharing about the vanity and tub area first, then we will wrap up by giving you details on the closet and new barrier free shower. You’ll have to come back for part two!

When you look at the new vanity you’ll be inspired to create your own luxury spa environment in your own bathroom! For this remodel we chose to add backsplash tile all the way up to the window to break up the height of the space. We mounted the beautiful open Edison bulb sconces directly on vanity area in white and black the backsplash for a completely different look. The twin round mirrors add dimension to the space and coordinate with the matte black fixtures and long hardware drawer pulls on the vanity. The under-mount square rectangular sinks ensure a seamless look on the quartz countertops. To keep everything modern and chic we stuck with whites, blacks, and grays for our color scheme. The marble-looking hexagonal tile mimics Carrara tile and is extremely modern. Specialty features on this vanity include a hot drawer, which is a drawer complete with outlets for curling irons, straighteners, blow dryers, and other hot tools.

tub area in master bathroom suite The tub area of this bathroom remodel makes us feel like we stepped straight into an all-day spa experience, but our clients have this as their everyday bathroom. What a dream! We chose to remove the built-in tub and added an elegant white free-standing tub. The wall-mount faucet is in matte black, coordinating with the vanity fixtures and hardware. The tub is a jetted tub and includes many features that provide a luxury spa experience at home.

We elected to add a small wainscot wall behind the tub that matches the backsplash wall behind the vanity. This ties various elements together and provides a cohesive design experience. We also master bathroom remodel view from tub with fireplace in white marble added built-in cabinets below the fireplace where the built in tub used to be so the client had storage options in the bathroom. Built-ins, when done right, provide an elegant storage solution. To provide a striking design we added a wrap-around mantle in a dark wood finish. The mosaic small stacked marble around the fireplace was selected to completely separate the fireplace from the wall and create a distinct look. We also installed a chandelier and a TV, contributing to the luxury experience. We loved the work we got to do on this vanity and tub area – stay tuned to learn about the shower and closet modifications for this spa-like experience!

Storybook Brookside Home: Guest Bathroom Updates

bathroom shower and tub in white vanity with blue cabinets and glass knobs Our other projects as part of this whole home remodel project for this Brookside family were two bathrooms: the guest bathroom that the young girls share and the couple’s master bathroom. In the guest bathroom, space was the main concern. The bathroom needed to be designed so both girls could use it at once without feeling so cramped. It also served as the guest bathroom and we wanted to make the new layout accessible for when the grandparents came to visit.

We chose to take the wall out and push it back into one of the girls’ bedrooms which allowed us space to add two full-size vanities, two large mirrors, and even a new linen stack in between the two vanities for additional storage. We were big fans of Quartetto for this project and used it again on the bathroom floor. It’s hard Quartetto tile floor in bathroom not to be a fan when it allows for cool and interesting designs that are less labor-intensive than traditional tilework. Plus the tiles are matte and not sealed so they make for good flooring vanity and cabinets in blue in guest bathroom !

We installed a brand-new tub and tiled the shower with large format subway tile (which is longer and taller than traditional subway tile). We used a slate tile because of the wash of color in the cabinets and floor. By using the chalkboard slate color we contrasted the room and added a dramatic element. We kept the shower curtain as our clients didn’t want to add tracks to the bathtub. The toilet shower with navy subway tiles and chrome fixtures maintained its location but was replaced with a new toilet.

One of chrome faucet in bathroom with quartz countertop the girls had lots of indoor plants, so we created a shelf specifically to be installed in the bathroom window to allow space for then to get sunshine, while not cluttering the vanity countertop. We also installed medicine cabinets above the sinks framed with crown molding with outlets inside the cabinets. This is a custom design from Wineteer that we like to include in bathroom remodels whenever possible to create a sleek look. glass knobs on bathroom cabinets with blue doors

We loved these simple touches to this Kansas City bathroom remodel that elevated the space, made it accessible for guests, and ensured the young girls would have a space to grow into. Stay tuned for the final part of this series where we share about the master bathroom renovation!

Zero-Entry Showers in Bathroom Remodeling

barrier free shower in grayscale with bench

Zero entry showers, also known as barrier-free showers, are a beautiful addition to any bathroom remodeling project. Barrier-free showers also have the added benefit of being accessible for those who need some additional assistance entering the shower threshold. Removing the lip on a shower can increase the aesthetic appeal and the accessibility of the space. Wineteer is a design model home remodeling company that offers aging in place modifications. Zero entry barrier showers are an element of allowing aging homeowners to live safely and securely.

Barrier- free and Zero-Entry Showers in Bathroom Remodeling can give any space a new and modern feel. They also give the opportunity to show off unique floor tile work and patterns that would not normally be seen with a traditional tub or lipped shower view. This function gives the opportunity to show off your new bathroom remodel to friends or family and let them know that Wineteer Construction created the bathroom of your dreams!

At Wineteer Construction our waterproofing method is second-to-none for bathroom remodels! Whether using Wedi Board or Hydro-Block our barrier-free showers keep mold out. If you are hesitant about pursuing a zero-entry shower in your bathroom remodel because you are not sure that your new shower will be waterproof, you can rest easy with a barrier-free shower from Wineteer. We create a completely waterproof box including the full height of the walls. The sole purpose of this waterproofing method is to keep water inside your shower. The tile work we overlay on top is simply there for designs and aesthetics. The tile is installed with the latest modified thinset mortars and hydraulic grout systems to give you maximum protection against staining and cracks due to movement. This gives us the freedom to be outrageously creative with our tilework and give you the shower of your dreams, all while providing peace of mind that your new space will not leak!

Our showers can be fitted with either tile or Onyx. While tile is a traditional approach to finishing large zero free shower with black grab bars
the shower space, Onyx is both more cost effective and faster. Onyx is a solid surface product that comes in sheets. It is still solid and slip resistant just like tile, and despite the name, it comes in a variety of colors. While there are many colors and textures to choose from with Onyx it does not have quite to the amount of variety that you can achieve with custom tile work. For example, we do not produce unique designs with Onyx like we do with our tile work. Wineteer Construction is experienced with creating custom bathroom and shower spaces using creative tiling, but not every bathroom renovation needs that unique tile lay. Some bathroom remodels call for a simpler approach and that is when we may suggest going with Onyx in lieu of tile. With Onyx, you still have the capability to have a varying wall and base color to include a unique element in your new space.

barrier free shower with gold accents barrier free shower with gold accents If Onyx does not seem like a good fit for you, we of course enjoy completing custom tile work. As a design-build company we can turn your ideas about your bathroom into reality. We specialize in taking not-quite fully formed thoughts about your new shower to full-fledged 3D designs that will make you want to get started yesterday! Whether you’re looking for a 100% unique tile-lay or out-of-the-box Onyx, either option is available to you when considering a zero-entry shower.

barrier free shower with gold accents barrier free shower with gray accent category As Certified Aging-in-place specialists, we are intimately familiar with creating a beautiful bathroom remodel that is also accessible. We’ve thought through the entire process giving the caregiver and the patient the spaces they need to be safe! We add various features to your shower to allow as many different uses as possible. Hand-held showers on slide-bars, flip-up shower seats that look like spa seats, designer grab bars strategically placed for a patient’s individual needs can make the impossible possible. Add a steam shower for sinus or arthritis and you’ve really increased the functionality of a shower for physical needs.

We frequently combine form and function in our bathroom remodels, but the designs are always a part of the conversation. Barrier-free showers look elegant and can create a more seamless transition from shower to bathroom, especially if you elect to install full-glass shower doors. While the type of shower you elect to create is ultimately up to you as the homeowner, we do recommend pursuing a barrier-free shower in your next bathroom renovation. When we start a new project, we’re not just thinking 1 year out or even 5 years out; we want to remodel for life. Are you a middle-aged empty nest couple that may have your in-laws move in with you in the future? How much easier would it be if you already have a barrier-free shower installed! Think about when you begin to have your grandkids over and how much less of a slip risk you create when there is no barrier to entry. A zero-entry shower can also help make your house more appealing and sellable in the future.

If you are on the fence about including a zero-entry shower in your new space, we can help answer any of your questions and determine if a barrier-free shower would be a good fit for you. All
our home improvement projects start with us asking our clients what works for them in their current home and a bathroom renovation is no different. Fill out this online form to discuss your bathroom remodel with our team.

Homeowners Remodel Homes for Greater Return

After nearly a decade of putting off any construction upgrades that were not seen as essential, like structural fixes and water leaks, homeowners are eager to take advantage of rising home values and low interest rates. A Boston Globe article, “Home remodeling, rebounds as economy improves,” estimates that “overall retail sales of home improvement products will grow 6.5 percent this year and another 7 percent in 2015.”

RELATED: Here are the Biggest Home Remodeling Trends of 2024

Either way, fully updated bathrooms offer the most bang for the dollar, significantly increasing the value and enjoyment of a home.

The recent recession took a toll on the construction industry to an extent that hasn’t been seen for decades. But this year, spending on home remodeling is on track to surpass levels not seen since 2006. Behind the Remodeling Projects

Home remodeling projects bring a modern, fresh update to the special places in your home, and they should align your needs with your style.

After meeting with our experts and sharing your remodeling vision, the fun begins. Keep reading to see what happens throughout a remodeling project:

Design/Plan Room Layout: Based on your conversations with our team and your vision for your new space, our experts will design any needed room updates to suit your needs. This may include updating the overall footprint of a room or just updating the aesthetic features of the room.

Material Selection: This is one of our favorite steps of the remodeling process! Once the new room layout has been designed and approved, our team works with you to choose the colors and materials that meet your needs and match your style.

We are fortunate to work with some of the best material providers in the area who have impeccable taste and access to intricate and high-quality materials for cabinetry, counters, tile and much more.

Demolition: For newly-designed spaces, doorways may be moved, walls pushed back and other structural changes may take place. This step is imperative in the process of home remodeling as it helps create a clean canvas for our team and helps us ensure the original state of the space is in excellent condition for remodeling.

Electrical and Plumbing Updates: New room layouts also mean new electric and plumbing needs. Updating any wiring and plumbing lines will ensure everything works smoothly in the remodeled space, from lamps to sinks. Planning their placement can help you later when you are furnishing and using your new spaces.

Construction: Once any updated electrical and water lines are updated, it is time to add any structural support needed (for items like grab bars), close up the walls and set up the space for new floors, fixtures and paint.

Finishing Details: Once the space has been painted, the flooring and fixtures installed, our team takes some time to inspect for any finishing touches such as cabinet handles, light switch covers and such. One thing is for sure; the outcome will reflect the vision and needs of our clients because we ensure to include their feedback throughout the process.

Dreamy Bathroom Updates in South Plaza/Brookside

In our recent post, we shared about the beautiful updates made to our clients’ kitchen, where our team implemented the use of different materials, colors and textures to create contrast, brighten the room and add more space and functionality.

In addition to the kitchen, we renovated several other portions of the home, starting with the Master Bathroom.

Spacious is the keyword for the new layout of the second-level bathroom. Our team extended the space to include a barrier-free walk-in shower with classic tones.

Continuing the design story of the home, the floor is covered by a beautiful mosaic tile that brings in both warm tones of yellow and classic gray, tying in the color of the stone in the shower, the walls and cabinets.

Functionality was carried throughout the space, with an in-shower bench, grab bar, custom vanity, and medicine cabinet mirrors.

Detail was present in the intricate pattern of the floor, both in the main area and the shower, the rustic yet clean feel of the shower walls and the delicate cabinet knobs and overhead crystal lamps.

The crew was terrific, neat as a pin, and communicated beautifully.  They were fast and efficient and stuck to their timeline.  This bid was probably not the lowest I could have gotten, but our satisfaction with the product and process was worth it.

Details that Matter: An AIP Bathroom Remodel

When it comes to remodeling projects, details matter. From the design of the new space to the selection of the materials, color scheme and more, our team of experts at Wineteer Construction work closely with our clients to ensure every detail brings out the best of the space.

Our client requested a bathroom design that provided accessibility and luxury, and our team brought together the ideas of style, accessibility and functionality to the next level by incorporating elements that are multifaceted in use and luxurious.

More than Meets the Eye
With the right elements and the best materials for the job, our team got to work to create the best space for our client. The shower was designed with a barrier-free entry for easy access and polished nickel fixtures were added to add a bit of warmth to the room. Grab bars and a flip-up bench were included in the shower to add the best mobility support. Adding to this comfortable space, our team included accessible locations for the fixtures to change the flow of water from the shower head to the hand-held. Lastly, the towel rings in the shower provide easy access to the towels while helping keep water within the shower area, where it will easily drain.

Outside of the shower, the bathroom’s floor is heated. This is an exciting element in many bathroom remodeling projects and one of our client’s favorite additions, as it always helps keep the room at a desired temperature and removes the unfortunate experience of cold feet in the middle of the night! Another surprising element is the towel bars, which are actually grab bars that can hold up to 300lbs; their look is so stylish you would not be able to tell their multifaceted functionality.

At the vanity, each section of the custom mirrored medicine cabinet opens up to ample space for storage. This helps keep the counter clean and makes up for the lack of vanity cabinets underneath to keep the wheelchair accessible sink.

At first glance, our client’s bathroom is a luxurious, functional space. Taking a closer look, every aspect of the design keeps the accessibility needs in mind, while keeping everything looking like it belongs there.
